Better known for its tradition as a football powerhouse, Odessa Permian also has some of the best athletes in the state of Texas in other sports as well.

The head baseball coaching position wasted no time in finding and naming a replacement. In four seasons at Flower Mound Marcus, Frank Chumbley led the Marauders to three consecutive 20-win seasons and got the program to the playoffs twice. The Marauders posted a record of 89-41 under his leadership.

Previous to Marcus, Chumbley had stints at San Antonio Highlands (two years), Corpus Christi Carroll (nine years), San Antonio Burbank (seven years) and Harker Heights (one year). The new Panther coach will bring 19 years of experience to the Land of the Legend. He takes over for Pete Southall, who resigned earlier this month to take an assistant position in Rockwall with former Permian coach Scott Smith.

Head baseball coach Pete Southall has turned in his resignation after four years at Permian. Southall announced he has taken the assistant coaching position at Rockwall next year, where he will be reunited with former Permian football coach Scott Smith.

The Permian Panthers wrapped up spring drills with the annual Black-White Game at Ratliff Stadium on May 17. Team Black defeated Team White 20-12. Led by returning starters Samson McClane, Anthony McDowell, and Jerome Leija, the Black defense held the White offense scoreless through the first half.

The awards banquet was held on May 16. The Panther sophomore, junior varsity, and varsity teams were in attendance. Each were individually introduced to the parents and fans that attended.
